was born in Bormio in Italy. He was awarded a diploma with
honours at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory of Milan and
continued his studies at the Conservatoire Superieure at
Geneva where he studied with Maxence Larrieu and won the
‘Prix de Virtuosite’. At the Ecole National de Musique in
Paris, Parrino studied with Patrick Gallois and followed
the performance and virtuosity diplomas for which he gained
the ‘premier prix all’ unanimite’ and "le premier prix avec
excellence". In London, he obtained the postgraduate
Diploma of Advanced Studies at the Royal Academy of Music
in the class of William Bennett, Sebastian Bell, Kate Hill,
and Keith Brag. Then in Biella in Italy, Parrino studied
with Peter-Lukas Graf at the Accademia Internazionale "L.
Perosi" where he won the "Eccellenza con Menzione
Speciale". In 2001 he took the Soloist diploma in the
“Lugano Conservatoire”. He has also played at master
classes with Jacques Zoon,
Patrick Gallois,
Paul Edmund Davies, Michael Cox, Andras Adorjan,
Michel Debost,
William Bennett,
Maxence Larrieu, Susan Milan, Peter-Lukas Graf.
Parrino has won and reached the final of numerous national
and international competitions which include the Schubert
competition (both as soloist and in chamber music), Endas,
Cilea 1994, All Flutes Plus, Citta di Stresa, Citta di
Colleferro and Pergolesi. He started a brilliant and
intense soloist and orchestral career at a very young age,
and various chamber groups of duos and trios have allowed
him to appear with musicians such as Antony Pay, Vladimir
Mendelsshon, Stephen Burns, Ubaldo Fioravanti, Stefano
Canuti, Luca Lucchetta, Guido Corti, Luca Vignali,
Susan Milan,
Peter-Lukas Graf,
Patrick Gallois,
Alessandro
Marangoni,
Luigi Attademo,
Iagoba Fanlo.
He has performed in theatres and concert halls of the
most prestigious kind all over Europe and South America
(Chile, Turkey, France, Peru, Colombia, Portugal, Italy,
Rumania and Great Britain) and has collaborated with
cultural institutes such as those of Oporto, Lisbon,
Lima, Istanbul, Santiago and Bucharest, and with other
concert associations. He has won wide acclaim both from
his public audience and from the press. He has been
invited to numerous festivals such as the Amadeus ’94,
Lago Maggiore Musica ’95 and ’96, Portogruaro ’95 and
’96, Settembre all’Isola di San Giulio ’94, Festival di
San Lorenzo, the inaugurational concert of the
Oresteiades ’97, E…venti d’Estate, Notturni in Villa,
Mozart 2000, E…state con noi and Summer Classics.
Parrino has been the principal flautist in several
orchestras, most notably the Simphony e Sinfonia of the
Royal Academy in London, Luglio Musicale Trapanese, EUR
Pesaro, the “A.Toscanini” orchestra of Parma "Teatro
Regio" of Tourin, "Solisti Veneti" and "Filarmonica
Marchigiana" in Ancona, has worked with conductors such
as Peter Stark, Lynn Harrel, Stephen Barlow, Lutz
Koeler, Juan Cantarell Rocha, Antonello Allemandi,
Manlio Benzi, Paolo Olmi, Anton Guadagno, Gyorgy Rath,
Denise Fedeli, Pierre Fournillier, Emmanuel Siffert,
Claudio Scimone. He has played concerts in Great
Britain, Spain, Portugal and France, and has
participated in a selection of festivals including the
‘Ligeti’ and ‘B.Britten’. Parrino is also the flautist
of the
Albatros Ensemble,
a trio for flute, violin and pianoforte which has
recorded the CDs
'Il Triangolo'
and
'Nino Rota Improvviso'
for the
Stradivarius
Label. Composers such as, Danuta Zankovska, Giovanni
Bietti, Luciano Chailly, Bruno Bettinelli, Flavio Emilio
Scogna, Fabrizio Festa, Giorgio Gaslini, Alessandro
Timossi, Delilah Gutman, Adeline Wong, Simone Fontanelli
and Luca Russo have dedicated works to Stefano Parrino and
to the ensembles in which he plays. Along with his busy
concert program, Parrino has also given Masterclasses on
circular breathing and Flute at the Conservatories of
Novara, Campobasso, Monopoli, Padua, Venice for the
'Orquestra Nacional Juvenil' and 'Universita Catolica' of
Santiago, Chile, Esquela Superior de Musica ‘L. Lavalle’
Arequipa (Perù) CSI of Lugano. He has also been guest
professor at the UCLA, Pomona College, UCSD, California
School of Arts, Oberlin Conservatory of music, The
University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Hartt School of Music
and the Yale university in the United States, the Royal
welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff , the Royal
Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music, the Trinity
College of Music in London and the Royal Northern College
Manchester, the St. Petersburg Music Conservatoire
(Korsakov) in the Russian Federation the Oulu Polytechnic
and Kälviä in Finland, the RCSM of Madrid in Spain, the
Oslo Musikkhøgkolen in Norway. Stefano is chamber music
teacher at the
'A.Corelli'
Conservatoire in Messina. The second of August 2006 he
performed as a soloist with the 'A.Toscanini' Orchestra
conducted by Stephen Alltop, the concert has been
broadcasted live on 'Radio Rai' channel 3. From June 2008
Stefano has been invited to teach chamber music and flute
at the
Kälviä
Music campus in Finland and from 2009 he is flute teacher
at the
Vitoria-Gasteiz
international summer course in Spain.
